Introduction to RSS

First of all, what is RSS? RSS stands for a number of different things depending on who you talk to. Some say it stands for RDF Site Summary. Others say it stands for Really Simple Syndication. Regardless of what it stands for, creating an RSS Feed is really simple as you will soon find out. Maybe you're thinking to yourself, "I'm just a beginning webmaster and only know the basics of HTML. Can I create an RSS Feed of my own with my limited knowledge?" The answer to that is.. of course you can. You don't need an extensive knowledge of HTML or any other language to create a validating RSS Feed to syndicate your original site content.

Why create an RSS Feed?

There are many reasons for webmasters to create RSS Feeds. Many webmasters write original content for their sites and want other webmasters to be able to use this content on their own sites. Or many people like to use a program called an "Aggregator". An aggregator is basically a program that retrieves RSS Feeds from the net and displays them all in one place instead of having to visit every different site to get the news you want. It's all right in front of you within the aggregator.

Maybe you have a ministry site of your own (like many of us do) and you want to syndicate your devotions for others to post on their websites. Maybe you want to syndicate a quote of the day or a verse of the day like a few of us use on our sites now from Good News Publishers.

The reasons for wanting to syndicate your content are endless.
Now that you know a little about what an RSS Feed is and what it does, lets get to how to create one.
